challenges

Digital visualization of the processing status of repairs in the workshop

solution

Introduction of Peakboard for information visualization via two different screens via 65-inch monitor

benefits

  • Elimination of the previous manual effort to visualize process progress during repairs
  • Seamless implementation from data collection to visualization
  • Quick retrieval of information via a central monitor in the workshop

Time to Value

One day until an executable dashboard with two different screens is available

The company

MUNSCH Kunststoff-Schweißtechnik GmbH has specialized in the production of manageable tools for welding thermoplastics for around 40 years and is today considered a leading global supplier. The products are developed, produced and tested in Ransbach-Baumbach in Westerwald. Plastic hand welding extruders and hot wedge welding machines are used all over the world.

“With Peakboard, we have achieved efficiency through greater transparency. Employees can see the current status at a glance directly at the workplace and steer their work steps accordingly. ”

Oliver Herz, Head of Application Development at MUNSCH Group

The challenge

More transparency in the process

In addition to production, the family company's range of services includes repairing these devices.
To improve the repair process in terms of greater efficiency and higher customer satisfaction To automate, the various process steps were digitized. The entire process was illustrated, from the submission of the defective extruder, the analysis of the repair requirement, the preparation of the cost estimate (KV) and sending it to the customer, through the initiation of the repair according to the approved KV, to the packaging/outgoing goods of the repaired device. The individual steps are booked by employees in the workshop using bar codes and appropriate scanners.

The next step was to visualize the information.

“We started with a so-called card board, a magnetic board that shows the various stages of the repair process. Each repair order was displayed on a type of business card, printed out, attached to the card board and pushed on there depending on the processing status. However, the board was hardly ever up to date because the repair cards were attached too late or not at all. With this method, we missed the actual goal of ensuring greater transparency in the process,” explains Oliver Herz, Head of Application Development at the MUNSCH Group.

The media gap between digitized recording of process steps and the manual process of visualizing process progress should be eliminated by introducing a digital visualization solution.

solution

Get to your first dashboard in a flash

His own boss set Oliver Herz on the right track. He brought the visualization solution from Peakboard GmbH into play — an installation-free all-in-one solution in the form of a WLAN-enabled, smartphone-small aluminum box with complete technology for aggregating data from various sources and visualizing it in real time. A central server is not required, as Peakboard automatically visualizes the data. Peakboard accesses a data source directly via WLAN or LAN, for example a ERP- or Warehousing program , aggregates the data for visualization and transmits it via an HDMI cable to the desired (large) screen, for example in the production hall. Data and visualizations can be adjusted independently at any time, without external support via PC or notebook.

“I had never heard of this solution before and I did some research on the Internet for the first time. I was impressed by the idea behind the product. ”

In just one day, the leading application developer at the MUNSCH group of companies developed and implemented a dashboard with two screens for use in the workshop.

“The support from Peakboard was also very good,” adds Herz. “The answer time for questions is less than a day. What I also liked: During the implementation period, support regularly proactively asked whether there was a need for support. ”

Visualizations with a wow effect

The database based on Microsoft SQL Server acts as the data basis ERP system APplus. The tables that Peakboard accesses are updated every five minutes. A 65-inch monitor is used as the screen.

The chronological receipt of extruders in need of repair is visualized. The mechanic can thus see on the screen whether he has more new incoming goods or more approved cost estimates and prioritize which work he carries out first: repairs or analyses of repair requirements as a basis for new cost estimates.

“Or whether, if both the value for incoming goods and the value for the approved KVs goes up, another mechanic must be deployed,” adds Herz.

In addition, the Turnaround time of an order — both the average of the year and the average value of the last completed calendar week. In two-minute alternation with the goods receipt screen, a list of all service orders is displayed with service number, customer, model, date of receipt of goods and most recent booking — i.e. every process step in the repair process and the number of days since the last booking.

With Peakboard, MUNSCH not only benefits from time savings, as Herz explains:

“The colleagues complained about the manual effort involved in the card board version, which we had previously visualized. The abolition of extra work due to the hanging of cards was, of course, well received. ”

In addition, transparency has increased significantly.

“We are now easily visible in our process, which enables employees to work in a structured way without first looking at any lists. A quick look at the screen and they know how things are currently going. ”

Even in things external impact Peakboard is making a contribution, as Herz reports:

“Our company philosophy includes a clean, tidy, structured workshop, where we also frequently welcome trade partners and customers. We see the large display with the current repair status as a perfect addition to the positive appearance of our workshop. We repeatedly experience a small 'wow effect' among visitors to the workshop . ”
Future

Only with Peakboard in the future

The sister company MUNSCH Chemie-Pumpen GmbH is also planning to use Peakboard for process visualization in the future.

“I hung up the screen in the morning the day before my vacation. In the afternoon, I already had a colleague standing in the office who also wanted to use Peakboard for his department,” Herz concludes.
